IN LIFE EXPERIENCE

What Is An Initial Rental Payment

When you lease a vehicle you normally need to pay a initial rental, sometimes referred to as an up-front payment. This is usually expressed as a set number of Lease rentals ( typically between 3 and 12 lease rentals) and is an advance rental payment and the amount you pay will have a direct impact on your monthly lease rental.

For example - the total rental payable over a 3 year period for your chosen vehicle is £7,600 excluding VAT.

If you choose to pay a 3 month initial rental followed by 35 monthly rentals then your initial rental would be £600 (3/38th of £7,600) followed by 35 payments of £200 (£7,000).

If you choose to pay a 9 month initial rental followed by 35 monthly rentals then your initial rental would be £1,554.57 (9/44th of £7,600) followed by 35 payments of £172.73 (£6,045.55).

Under both examples the Lease rentals paid over the total contract are the same and sum up to £7,600.

Certain vehicle finance companies may require a minimum Initial lease payment and this will be confirmed at the vehicle order stage, this may be due to your personal financial circumstances/credit history or down to being a standard policy from the finance company. It should also be highlighted that as the Initial payment relates to a part payment of the total rentals payable it is not a deposit and is non-refundable.

The initial rental is payable to the finance company, the payment date is usually 7 to 14 days after you have taken delivery of your vehicle, however some finance companies may require payment prior to delivery. We will confirm payment dates when you order your vehicle.

When comparing your options for the most competitive leasing deal it is important that you factor the initial rental into your total costs, some businesses may advertise a very low monthly vehicle lease rate as they have factored in a very high initial payment. Our recommendation is that to compare deals you do a simple calculation:

Initial Rental + Admin Charge + (Monthly Rental X Number of Rentals Payable) = Total Amount Payable Over Contract

Is Road Tax Included In The Lease Price?

Road Tax is included in your lease rental price for all personal and business contract hire deals and this is for the duration of the Hire Agreement. If the cost of road tax increases during the course of your vehicle hire agreement or any extended term, your finance company may charge you for the increase. Paper road tax discs ceased being issued in 2014. Road tax is now purchased for your lease vehicle digitally by your vehicle finance company.

When Are My Monthly Rental Payments Collected?

The first monthly payments will usually be collected one month after the delivery of your new vehicle, with subsequent monthly payments being taken monthly in advance throughout your Hire Agreement. The date of payment collections will be stated on your Hire Agreement and you may be able to state a preferred collection date in the month to coincide with your income receipt. Please contact one of our customer service executives if you have any questions relating to your rental payments.

When Will My Initial Payment Be Collected?

The initial rental is payable to the finance company, the payment date is usually 7 to 14 days after you have taken delivery of your vehicle, however some finance companies may require payment prior to delivery. We will confirm payment dates when you order your vehicle.

INSURING YOUR VEHICLE

My Lease Vehicle Has Been Written Off By My Insurance Company, What Should I Do?

If the vehicle has been written off by your insurance company, you must contact us immediately and provide written confirmation from your insurance company that the vehicle has been written off. The finance company will then provide you with a value for settlement of the contract.

My Lease Vehicle Has Been Stolen And Declared A Total Loss By My Insurance Company, What Should I Do?

If the vehicle has been stolen and declared a total loss by your insurance company, you must contact us immediately and provide written confirmation from your insurance company that the vehicle is a total loss. The finance company will then provide you with a value for settlement of the contract.

I Have Had An Accident In My Lease Vehicle, What Should I Do?

If your lease vehicle has been involved in an accident you are responsible for contacting your insurance company and arranging for the necessary repairs to take place.

Does Insurance Come As Part Of My Lease Hire Agreement?

Vehicle insurance is not included in your lease agreement and it is your responsibility to arrange insurance prior to your new vehicle being delivered. The insurance policy must have fully comprehensive cover. When your vehicle delivery date has been confirmed we will contact you so that you can arrange cover. For personal contract hire agreements the insurance cover should be in the name of the person as per the Hire Agreement or the person on the Hire Agreement should be a named driver on the insurance policy. For business contract hire agreements the insurance cover should be in the company's name or in the name of a director. When arranging your insurance cover please ensure that you disclose to the insurance company that the vehicle is on a Hire Agreement and that the finance company is the registered owner and keeper of the vehicle. We recommend that you obtain some indicative quotes for insurance for your chosen vehicle as you would do when deciding on a vehicle to purchase  prior to committing to the Hire Agreement as insurance premiums can vary significantly by vehicle make and model.

DRIVING YOUR VEHICLE

What Happens If I Get A Parking or Speeding Fine?

Speeding or Parking tickets can be issued in one of 2 ways

  1. Issued directly to the driver e.g. Paper Parking Ticket - under these circumstances it is important that you pay the fine within the agreed timelines, if the fine is unpaid the issuing authority will contact the registered owner and keeper of the vehicle which in the case of a leased vehicle will be the finance company that owns the vehicle. When they receive the reminder the fine is likely to of increased, the finance company will then forward on the fine to you directly along with an administration fee for you to settle.

  2. Issued directly to the registered owner and keeper of the vehicle e.g. Speeding Fine - Where a vehicle is leased this will be the finance company, they will forward on the fine to you directly along with an administration fee for you to settle.

What Happens In The Event Of Death Of The Contract Holder?

Please inform us as soon as possible and we will liaise with the finance company to determine next steps.

Can Someone Else Drive My Lease Vehicle?

Other drivers are allowed to drive your lease vehicle, subject to them being covered by your fully comprehensive insurance policy. The named person on the Hire Agreement should still remain the primary user of the vehicle. If you are looking to lease a vehicle for your partner or child  this should be possible but is subject to the finance provider approval. Please speak with one of customer service advisors so that we can explore options for you. Please note that personal or business contract hire leases cannot be used as a taxi, any form of sub hire/vehicle rental, chauffeur work or for driving schools.

I Need A Replacement Vehicle What Should I Do?

If your vehicle is off the road for a period of time, e.g. for accident repairs or for a major component failure that results in the vehicle being off the road for more than a day due to repair time or time to source replacement parts, your service provider may be able to offer you the use of a courtesy vehicle.
