WHY LEASE A RENAULT ELECTRIC CAR

Renault has lots of credibility in the electric and plugin hybrid market. It’s creating a new niche with the Twizy – a brand new, affordable, one-person electric car. It’s proving all-electric small car concepts with the Zoe, and winning awards for doing it. And it’s about to go mainstream with its E-Tech and E-Tech Plug-In versions of some of its biggest-selling models, including the Clio.

Renault’s investing in electric and plugin hybrid technologies not just as an add-on to its traditional range, but in developing new ways to use electric and plugin hybrid tech in the car market. That’s a commitment to the technology that will reward drivers of its electric and hybrid cars for years to come.

The all-electric Twizy is one thing – an affordable, ecologically-friendly first car for students, singletons and others who might otherwise be forced to ride a moped.

The award-winning Zoe, a small electric car with a one-charge range of up to 245 miles, is another thing entirely.

But both of these are more interesting than dedicated to moving the needle of electric and plugin hybrid acceptance. They’re vehicles for evangelists who are already convinced of the benefits of going electric and hybrid.

The hybrids will include a Clio E-Tech, and a Captur E-Tech subcompact crossover. Two of Renault’s biggest-selling models getting hybrid versions would make it a serious contender in the electric-hybrid market.

It may not be on a par with the likes of BMW or Mercedes, both of whom have a wide range of electric and plugin hybrids already available and are pushing ahead with all-electric options. But Renault operates in the mass market, not the luxury market. There are, almost by default and affordability, more mass market cars out there than there are luxury models. Renault making two of its leading models available in hybrid versions has the potential to put more hybrid vehicles on the roads in a shorter time frame. That means more people reaping the benefits of electric-hybrid vehicles and the fuel cost savings that come with them. And more clear air for the earth and everything that lives on it.

Renault’s a big player in the mass market, too. It gets a lot more cars on the road each year than some of the higher-priced luxury brands. Putting a couple of leading Renault models on the market in hybrid forms is likely to clue a lot of drivers into the benefits of switching to electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles – and to do it fast.
